Assessment Centres

Our experience in designing, developing and evaluating assessment and development centres in the NHS is wide ranging.

All the development and assessment centres we have designed have been bespoke to match each client’s unique requirements. We first agree with the client which competencies they wanted to be assessed and then develop behavioural indicators against which to measure participants’ performance. The competencies can draw on existing frameworks such as the NHS Leadership Qualities Framework (LQF) or World Class Commissioning competencies and / or organisations’ own models.

We have a large number of associates who are trained assessors who have worked with us over the last few years.  A key component of our centres – be they assessment or development focussed – is the one to one coaching provided at the conculsion of the centre, where feedback is given to participants and their development needs are discussed and agreed.

We have designed and facilitated assessment centres for selection purposes at Director level. We also offer online “Mental Toughness” tests and other psychometric tests which our clients have found to provide extremely useful extra information.

Two of our associates, who have been involved in the design of our assessment and development centres, designed and delivered the assessment and development centres for the NHS Institute’s National ‘Breaking Through’ Programme from 2002-2007.

We recently carried out a retrospective evaluation of one of our assessment centre projects and it found that 79% of participants felt that the centres were relevant to their development and their role. Their line managers also felt that they had been worthwhile as performance is easier to manage now that their staff are clear about what is expected of them.
